Things that keep me up at night
This week my sleep has been disturbed for various reasons. Firstly, my husband and son decided to set an alarm to watch the Olympics – Wayde van Niekerk’s 400m final and Usain Bolt’s 100m race. Since I am sensible and am able to use the PVR, I decided I would rather sleep and hear the news in the morning.
But this was not my destiny. Because in the middle of the night, I first heard the shrill sound of the alarm, then the loud stomping of male feet and finally the shouts of Go Boy, GO Boy, GOOOOOO BOOOOOYYYY, YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS… It’s a WORLD RECORD!!!
Nothing like getting the news as it happens. (Well done, Wayde.)
The other reasons for poor sleep have included kids’ nightmares, wind and nerves for my oldest child’s adventurous day visit to a different school. And then… a great book, which I am listening to on Audible. By Belinda Bauer and called The Shut Eye, it has some disturbing scenes in it that have invaded my dreams. (I can’t tell you what these are; it will give the whole plot away.)
Nevertheless this is a detective (crime) thriller with a hint of paranormal you’ll definitely want to read. Two children are missing: Edie (Edith) Evans and Daniel Buck. Detective John Marvel is looking for Edie. Daniel’s parents, Anna and James, for Daniel.
How are their stories connected and how will getting a psychic (shut eye) involved lead any of them to finding their lost kids?
The story is brilliantly written and the narration is edge-of-your seat outstanding.
I keep finding excuses to get in the car and drive to have a few more minutes to listen.
Highly worth “reading”!
